SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks using a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, since the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be used for a number of things with regards to the type of website hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for example, SSH is among the ways to import/export a database or to upload a file if the hosting server permits it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH could be used for pretty much everything - you could install software or restart certain services like the web server or the database server which run on the machine. SSH is used typically with UNIX-like Systems, but there are clients which allow you to use the protocol if your computer system is using a different OS as well. The connection is established on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port though lots of providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

SSH access is provided with all Linux cloud hosting that we offer. With some of them, it is featured by default, while with others it's an optional upgrade that you can include with a couple of clicks from your web hosting CP. You can get SSH access from the section related to it in which you can also find the details you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password that you will use and, if required, you'll be able to modify it with a few mouse clicks from the same spot. All the commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you can add it from the hosting Control Panel if required - even just for the current month. Either way, you can activate and de-activate the feature with a single mouse click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same location, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box in which you can input the password that you would like to use, since it doesn't have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you can also change it as often as you want. The full list of the commands that can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a number of instances. An extra function after SSH access is activated will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client which supports this type of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, due to the fact that all our plans include this feature by default. You'll not need to include or allow anything manually - as soon as your website hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome email with the login info, you can connect and begin working on your websites or any software which you want to set up and run on the hosting server. You shall have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be separated from all of the other accounts inside the physical server, you will be able to do anything you want with no restrictions. You'll be able to install any application which you need and which shall run on a Linux-based web server, reboot any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases easily and quickly.
